You have a small office that needs the elements necessary for organization and style of an executive suite.  By designing a floating desk with return the furniture will be scaled to the space available.  Grommets on the desk top will keep phone and computer cords hidden.  Custom bookshelves fit perfectly under windows and provide adjustable storage. 

And don’t forget the supply room – or cabinet in this one room office.  Only five feet high and placed behind the door, this cabinet is not imposing in the office.  Paper trays for letterhead, bins for clips, pens, and other supplies are handy for projects as needed.

A reach in closet will have more room if all the wall space is utilized.  Home office closets may have several uses.  Extra coats, office supplies, family photographs, and shredder just don’t work in a closet with one rod and shelf.

Once you identify your needs, a good closet designer and make your “prime real estate” work for you.  Cubbies for paper supplies, adjustable shelves get things in sight.  If over-sized times are stored, have a ”home” designed for easy access.  For example, extra table leafs for the dining room table are now easy to reach.

It’s the most organized “Red Carpet” in Los Angeles!  The 2009 Los Angeles Organizing Awards have announced the top recipients of this year’s online voting and Get It Together LA! is again in the running for Best Closet Design Firm.  The winners will be announced at the January 30th event to be held at the Luxe Hotel in Bel-Air.

“It is an honor to just have been nominated,” say Chris McKenry who is a past award winner.  “We don’t just build beautiful closets, we offer complete assessments of client’s organizing needs.  It just goes to show, it is not about the space as much as how you use it.”  Chris went on to saym ”there are many other great closet designers out there that have inspired me and I wish them the best on Awards night.”

Closet Organizing Tip from Get It Together LA!:  Keep only what you wear and love.  Group like items together and use uniform hangers so all clothes will hang at the same height.

Knoxville does not have a Container Store, but that does not mean the city lacks the hottest organizing products.  Robin and Travis Carbaugh have owned SpaceMakers The Get Organzied Store since 1997.  Located in the shopping meca of West Knoxville’s Turkey Creek, SpaceMakers is across from Walmart.   

On my visit this week, Robin and Travis walked me through the newly remodeled showroom.  Besides featuring numerous organizing products for all areas of the home and office, SpaceMakers offers custom design services for closets, garages, office, and pantries.  They offer both custom melamine and wood veneer systems from basic to designs featuring crown molding and unique drawer inserts.  They also offer Do-It-Yourself products for those inspired by HGTV, also located in Knoxville.

Their website is expanding and online shopping is available for many items.  If you are in East Tennessee, SpaceMakers a must stop for your holiday organizing needs and Get Organized Month projects in January.  Besides, organizing a garage is much more fun with snow falling than during hot and humid days of summer!

 Get It Together LA! received “Best in Show” for outstanding booth design and product display at the 2008 Los Angeles Organizing Expo.  Professional organizers wondered the isles of the Olympic Collection viewing products and services that will help keep clients organized through the year.

Get It Together LA! displayed samples of our custom construction materials for closets, garages, and pantries.  Chris McKenry and Erin Haas enjoyed meeting many colleagues at the event.  Marble samples, hardware, door and drawer finishes were featured highlighting the style and design of the display. 

With a record crowd of consumers, organizing professionals, home-building representatives and interior designers, the event drew participants from Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, and as far away as Ohio and Minnesota. The one-of-a-kind organizing Expo was the place to find time-saving products, solutions, tools and services for consumers wanting to get their lives in order and learn first-hand the secrets to an organized life.
 
John Trosko, President of the Los Angeles chapter of the National Association of Professional Organizers said, “Busy Angelenos probably find the stress and strain of modern life demanding on both their time and space.  It is vital when trying to simplify one’s life to choose the right organizational tools. Lucky for us, there is now a wide variety of stylish, functional and affordable organizing options available and we have many of these products at the Expo.”
 
This year’s Expo hosted the first ever “Ask the Organizer” Panel. Home and business organizational experts offered guidance and expertise to a packed house of aspiring professional organizers and members of the general public. Questions ranged from residential to small business to corporate organizing concerns. The most anticipated question was how to successfully maintain an organizational system while balancing family, activities and work.
